Hi. I am new to the site. I have had my 70 R/T since 1978. I bought it for $1000 back then. I worked a part time job and and I paid $38.00 a month on the loan. I have only drove it like 2000 miles since the early 80's and now am just getting around to restoring it. It looks like this is the site to get all the info on restoration. I will be thankful for all the info I will gain from the 1970 Charger Registry. Thanks, Dennis

Hi. The car had 4 different owners before I got it. The first guy was drafted to go to Vietnam. The second owner had a bearing go out and the original motor was replaced by Jim Clark Chrysler Plymouth here in Topeka in 73. I can't seem to find any id numbers on the block. The casting numbers on the side are 3698830-440-6 dated 6-29-73. I guess I can say not a numbers matching engine but a factory replacement? I have the reciept showing 193.00 for labor and 675.00 for parts from that dealership back in 73. I did rebuild the engine back in 80 and it does have the six pack rods. The third owner was a girl and drove it throgh high school and my nephew bought it from her and drove it 3 months then wet to the army and I bought it in 78. Hopefully an easier restoration than most for a car this old.

It has set outside a few times over the years to work on other cars. It leaked in through the back window some and maybe I can get away with just replacing the center section of the trunk. The right rear quarter panel can maybe get by with a lower patch panel. I plan on pretty much going through the whole car. I am kind of up in the air on what to do about the underside. It has been udercoated ant looks pretty solid. The floors and frame rails are rust free. Looks to maybe to be a a lot of work to remove it all. I am looking in to possibly getting a rotissorie. I of course plan on driving the car to cruise nights and shows. What does anyone think I should do on the underside?

I removed the AC years ago and unfotunatly dont have any of the componets any more. I put on an aluminum intake, valve covers and headers back in in 80. I am wondering if I would lose much horse power by going back the the stock manifolds? I was thinking maybe shorty headers since the starter is a nightmare with regular headers. I never plan on selling it so being original doesn't really matter.

The luggage rack came from a 69 and for some reason installed it back when I got the car. What does anyone think about them? Im not sure if it still looks cool or not. It would have to be rechromed to be nice. The car has right at 80,000 on it now. It has most of the original paint and a couple of small areas have bondo and was touch up painted way back when. I plan on doing some body work myself but I am not a professinal on that and will have the final work and paint done. I may have someone in mind to media blast it. Does anyone think that is the best way to go? Thanks guys.

Dennis

I vote keep the luggage rack, you don't see them very much. grinning-smiley-003 It makes it stand out from others.

Looks like you have an excellent project car!
Wish that they still had the Super Mopar Weekend in Topeka
as that was only a short drive from here in Wichita.
I was always able to find a few parts for my projects there.
