Yeah the place is jammed with pretty much every type of muscle car you can name. There is a Challenger and Dart in the final assembly area that my car is in, a Duster and 70 Road Runner in the body & paint building and a 69 Charger and a 71 Challenger convertible in the metal frabrication building. The Chally convert is really really bad...I was shocked at how bad it was. Just came in. Apparently discovered in a field hidden in shoulder height weeds & bushes. If they hit it with a media blaster it would literally collapse....can't put it on a rotisserie since it would fold up like cardboard. Looked like the only thing worth saving was the VIN tag |

I just can't buy a fracking break
This morning I was out at the shop when they were getting ready to tune the engine. Engine running and then heard a pop and then the sound of something hitting the drivers side valve cover. Pulled the valve cover to discover that a rocker arm adjusting screw had snapped.
But wait...then we notice that the nuts on the screws are all loose
Called the engine shop and they said they backed off the rocker valvetrain after the dyno run since the engine would be stored for awhile and claim they told me that I would have to re-tighten them before running the engine...which I do not recall and was not noted on any of their invoices. They refuse to cover the repair. So now Boothill Auto has to fix.

Don, that sucks!
So... was there lots of oil leaking out of the valve covers when you last started it up? I think if I was going to back off the tension on the rocker arm adjusters that I would just spin the valve cover bolts back on finger tight. What would be the point in tightening them if you knew you had to get back under them?
If that's not the case, maybe they are just feeding you a line of B.S. and they never have been properly adjusted. I'm assuming you went with adjustables because of your solid lifter cam?
Was the broken screw retreivable or does the intake have to come off? |

Sounds like they're feeding you a line of BS to cover their ass. Your motor wasn't gonna sit that long plus some thing like that you'd think they would have told you more than once?
Sure looks good sittin' on that lift. |

The valve covers were tight. Yeah I agree they are ducking the issue. BS move. The Boothill guys called them as well and tried to get them to budge...no dice. Every once in awhile life serves you a sh*t sandwich, best hold your nose and get it over with.
The adjustable studs came with the rocker arm assembly so it wasn't a concious choice on my part. Ron (Firefighter) designed my build and I basically bought what he suggested...why try to outguess the expert.
Still hoping to drive her home late next week. |

Yeah but Don, you must have eaten a foot-long by now, what with the first bodyshop screwing you over. I would threaten to take the engine shop to court. Small claims court is cheap. I betcha they'll roll over. Is there any kind of warranty on your engine? If there is, I would say they wouldn't want you in there tinkering anyways. I bet it was an oversight not tightening the rocker adjusters up.
I've been in business 15 years, the best way to fix a problem like this is to make it right. It's a lot cheaper than going to court. |

I agree, take them to court. You have spent to much time and effort on this car to let some one cheat you like that.

Guys relax.
I'm not suing them over a couple of hundred dollars. Not worth my time or effort and should something really serious occur then that is different.
Year One took care of me on the forward light harness and engine harness issues. Got a credit which I burned through right quick by ordering some parts I needed.
The old body shop is what it is.
Hope to drive her home this Friday. |

What an emotional rollercoaster this last thrash to get her ready is.
This morning the shop called and said it looked like there were hydraulic lifters in my engine but I had told them my cam was mechanical. They did some investigating and later confirmed they were mechanical lifters. Whew For about an hour I thought I'd be stuck replacing lifters or a cam.
They called a little later and had my engine running, said it was running very nice...the carbs just need final tweaking and they were installing the bumblebee stripe as we spoke.
Step by step we are getting closer. ![:[tiptoe]:](images/smiles/creep.gif) |

Ah, Don it is the threat of going to court that works!
In my business, it is the most effective way to get people to pay their bills. It is rare to actually go to court.
Awesome that she's runnin' again. |

Stripe is on.
The car has been safety certified and aligned. She was road tested today (without me ) and passed with flying colours. The outboard carbs need a wee bit more tweaking then back to the paint shop for the final polish.
The plan was to drive her home Friday but of course wouldn't you know it....Friday will be thunder storms all day
So I pick her up first thing Monday morning and drive her home .....I cannot wait!
Then once home I will jump on the task of finishing the interior and then detailing the car in prep for Moparfest next weekend. Talk about cutting it close
Tomorrow morning I pick up the safety certificate so I can go get plates.
The doors shut with one fingertip......sweet. They found a number of mistakes I made and had to correct them...oh well...at least I know it is all good now. The glass all mates well. The power windows work smooth and fast.
Sometime next week I'll post a video of the car running and driving around the block. |

Stopped by the shop this morning and picked up my safety certificate.
The car was at a nearby alignment shop and they said it was ready and asked if I wanted to drive it back to Boothill.....naturally I said hell yeah!
This was my first time driving her.
All I can say is OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This thing is loud and fast. Holey crap. Going to take some getting used to it. Thing pulls like a rocket. I never actually floored it but I gave her about 3/4 pedal from a rolling 20-25 MPH and the thing just throws me back and the back end breaks loose. Oh I am LOVING this!!
I got stares and a few thumbs up from people on the street as I drove through the town. I suppose you are not keeping a low profile driving a mean purple car.
Can't wait for the hour long drive home on Monday. |
